At Technion-Israel Institute of Technology - 8th Nadav Shoham Robotraffic Competition for fostering robotics education, traffic safety and learning correct driving behavior

About one thousand students took part in the Nadav Shoham Robotraffic Competition, which took place at the Technion on March 23, 2017, with 80 teams from schools in Israel, the United States, Argentina, Mexico, Russia and Ukraine.
This is the eighth year of the competition, now named after Nadav Shoham, an engineer and a master's degree student in the mechanical engineering department at the Technion, who lost his life in a snowstorm in Nepal in 2014.

The RoboTraffic competition is organized by the Leumi Robotics Center at the Technion’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, World ORT organization, World ORT Kadima Mada-Israel, the World Zionist Organization in cooperation with the YTEK Ltd and Eytam Robotics Ltd.

The overall goal is to provide students with the knowledge and skills of robotics along with facts and awareness necessary for safe driving, in an attempt to minimize the involvement of young drivers in road accidents.

In preparation of the competition, the Leumi Robotics Center developed a ‘safe roads’ route course containing sensors that make contact with the robotic car, and provide the vehicle with an automatic response to signaled obstacles as well as traffic lights and road signs. During the competition, the robots move along the track autonomously, in a manner ensuring the prevention of road accidents and in keeping with traffic rules.
